As someone who tends to run gimmick strategies, other things that could go wrong -toxic, curse, or other move which like perish song puts you on a timer -haze, shuts down or at least resets set up -fake out preventing set up -trick room is a pain if you’re strategy revolves around setting things up before your opponent can damage you enough -knock off counters heal stalling and bright power -follow me counters moves like skill swap or guard split -if you dedicate too many moveslots to set up, you might end up in a situation where your remaining attacking moves don’t affect or are resisted by one of the opponents Pokemon (let’s say aside from set up moves, you’re muk has poison jab and brick break but you’re opponent has gholdengo so you just can’t hit it) -your opponent uses the turns you didn’t attack to set up their own unbeatable strategy There’s more but hopefully you see the point, there’s a lot of obscure moves and mechanics which hard counter others and it’s impossible to account for all of them so a lot of the time it’s best to just make a well rounded team which can deal with what you can or what’s relevant rather than trying to make a theoretically invincible strat given enough setup (that being said, it does feel amazing the one time said strat DOES work against someone who doesn’t see it coming)

You missed one, deal damage, raise ally stats, lower enemy stats, inflict status, cause field effects AND do nothing ie celebrate and hold hands and splash

This got me thinking about the accuracy system in Darkest Dungeon. You REALLY feel how much of a difference five or even ten percent less accuracy makes in that game. It leads to a meta of accuracy boosting items over damage increasing ones.

Gamers dont need supplements they need sunlight real physical activities a real diet and more then anything a SHOWER noting is a proper substitute to healthy living people will only push things like this on you if there getting paid to.

Evasion really is just the quintessential cheese strategy. It's unreliable, will likely fail vs good players, and isn't better than setting up another stat, but it's incredibly obnoxious and just sucks to play against because it essentially just puts the game down to luck. Every so often it will just win you games you had absolutely no business winning It's probably the one thing you can undeniably give to Smogon even if you hate their ruleset, because evasion clause means you don't have to deal with that nonsense ever.

As the most funny and fitting obscure mechanic, Stomp has the same buff against Minimize that Heat Crash, Heavy Slam, and Dragon Rush do. Maybe GF should add Body Slam to that list too just for the laugh?

To speak about minimize chansey as well, there's a hidden mechanic in the moves Stomp, Body Slam and maybe some other moves as well that if the pokemon was boosted by minimize, those would be guaranteed to hit and even hit harder

My younger cousin has recently taken a huge liking to Pokémon (my fault, sorry not sorry to my Aunt). But she has started to ask me lots of questions about competitive sets and team building. While I've given her some basic advice on coverage, team synergy, and EV/IVs. I feel like there's people better suited to explaining it all. So I was wondering if you'd have any interest in creating a video that explained these fundamentals in regards to the modern Pokémon scene and how someone could get started on their journey?

The ohko moves have been a thing on 2 Pokémon this gen, and both for the same reason. There’s the old reg B C and D fissure and stomping tantrum spamming moose who was bulky as hell so he uses fissure, misses, then 150 BP stomping tantrum and he was strong, other option was articuno bc it was an option because in snow and with veil it was really bulky and could afford to use it or blizzard with specs

How long is it before people start running IV spreads that isn't 0 or 31 on multiple stats (and they will try and find a calc to back it up)???

Maybe evasion is a cheese strategy...but it's still fun. The way I finally beat Cynthia in Brilliant Diamond was when my Toxicroak Smiley set up Double Teams and Swords Dances on Cynthia's Roserade, then proceeded to dodge her ridiculously fast Garchomp's Earthquake and one-shot it with Drain Punch. It was an epic moment and I'm proud of him. 😁 But I guess battling against other players is different...still, relying on luck gives everyone a chance to win regardless of skill, so I kinda like it.

I remember in Cassette beasts one boss relied on boosting his own evasion. that guy was incredibly frustrating to fight. also in pokemon xd gale of darkness in the orre collosseum there was also a guy who relied on boosting evasiveness. I had to use golduck with cloud nine just to prevent his tyranitar from setting up the permament sandstorm.

A lack of an evasion clause is one of the things that prevents me from being fully bought into VGC. These moves are ass and everyone knows it. They get fringe useage and can clutch out a win in the most infuriating way, and there’s just no good reason for those moves to exist Also, accuracy as a balancing mechanic isn’t strictly needed. We have 100% consistent trade-off mechanics in recoil, stat drops, or even recharge turns for the pokemon as a whole or just the move. There is no need to make a move inaccurate for the sake of balancing

Give delibird +40 in speed special atk so. Definitely and def. Also remove the healing in opponents in its signature move instead heal it's allies status conditions The lowering of stats and healing the ally and it's health

I firmly believe that the main reason its banned is because game freak decided to give every Polemon an Evasion Boosting move for some dumb reason. If they just restricted the evasion boosting moves to Pokemon who are purposefully made to be weaker, then it wouldn't be that bad. But for some ungodly reason, they decided to give nearly every Pokemon Double Team
